Spores in this group are dark, usually black in mass. Calcium carbonate is present in the peridium, capillitium, stalk, hypothallus, or in combinations of these. The capillitium is present as a system of noncalcareous threads, as calcareous tubules, or as noncalcareous threads interconnected by calcareous nodes. The assimilative stage is a phaneroplasmodium.
