They are native to Azerbaijan, Tajikistan, Armenia, Turkmenistan, Mongolia, Pakistan, Moldova, Afghanistan, Turkey, Kazakhstan, China, Uzbekistan, Ukraine, Kyrgyzstan, South Korea, Iran, Russia, Iraq, and North Korea. They have simple, broad leaves. Flowers are visited by Western pygmy blue, Honey-bellied Agapostemon, Poecilognathus unimaculatus, and Reakirt's Blue. Individuals can grow to 4.2 m.
