Calluna vulgaris is a species of shrub in the family Ericaceae. They have a self-supporting growth form. They are native to Ukraine, The Netherlands, United Kingdom, Italy, Romania, Russia, Poland, Bulgaria, Ireland, Belgium, Sweden, Morocco, Norway, Hungary, Moldova, Czech Republic, Yugoslavia, Greece, Turkey, Belarus, France, Portugal, Germany, Denmark, Albania, and Spain. They have simple, scale leaf leaves and capsule fruit. Flowers are visited by Lasiommata maera, Erynnis tages, Apis mellifera, and Lang's Short-tailed Blue. Individuals can grow to 0.42 m.
