synonym: Gilia subacaulis. Sorry this whole plant image was so crappy, I wanted to show the branching at the base. Will replace at a later time. Porter considers Gilia leptomeria [Aliciella leptomeria] and Gilia subacaulis (Aliciella subacaulis) to be separate species, neither of which occurs in CA, and that California material referred to Gilia subacaulis (Aliciella subacaulis) actually is an undescribed species.

I have been looking in the field for this species for years. Finally finding it at a very propitious location, what I will call the amazing hanging rock canyon S-curve. More saliently are certain characters that key this to A. hutchinsifolia, primarily the glandular hairs on the tube and throat of the corolla, the abaxial surfaces.
