These things are all over the back yard at the moment. It took a long time to figure our what they are because they're actually nymphs as opposed to the fully grown/developed adult.Figured it out tho: "Bordered Plant Bugs", which are pretty much ubiquitous to the area.
While these little flying insects are called flies, they belong to the Hemiptera family. They are called flies because they have only two wings. They are covered with a woolly substance and have a lovely tail made of a waxy substance. The female is a wingless insect. I did not expect to see these boatman bugs near Bullfinch. In early November we camped overnight near the dry saltlake - Lake Deborah and set up our camp table with a LED lantern. Many insects came to visit.
