They are native to The Contiguous United States, China, U.S. Virgin Islands, Pacific Basin excluding Hawaii, Hawaii, and Puerto Rico. They have capsule fruit. Flowers are visited by Nomia cuneata and Megachile ianthoptera. Individuals can grow to 2.5 m.
