A family of Tropiometracea with centrodorsal small, five-sided, low columnar to subconical; apex low conical to concave, often with 5 radial tubercles; aboral star sometimes present; cirrus sockets in 10 columns, commonly separated by radial and interradial furrows or ridges. Adoral surface of centrodorsal with multiple, deep radial pits, which may form canals to aboral star in juveniles. Cirri of >50 segments; distal cirrals with aboral spine, except in Simometra; rod-shaped basals not united around centrodorsal cavity; radial muscular fossae steep, high, and narrow; radial cavity with central plug; up to 30 arms; radials and proximal brachials often with median ridge, distal brachials angular in section. Pinnules with distinct ambulacral covering plates.
