Berberis aquifolium is a species of shrub in the family Berberidaceae. They have a self-supporting growth form. They are native to The Contiguous United States, Canada, and Western North America. They have simple, broad leaves, yellow flowers, and berries. Flowers are visited by Xylocopa violacea, Andrena berberidis, ichneumon wasps, and Episyrphus balteatus. Individuals can grow to 8 feet.
