Body elongate, depth more than 4 times in SL. Head large, snout blunt. Jaw teeth strong, canine-like teeth in front, conical and rounded teeth behind. Teeth on vomer large, rather pointed, reaching back as far as the line of palatine teeth on either side of them. Caudal fin with 20 to 23 soft rays. Colour body yellowish or greyish-brown to dark brown, with numerous distinct spots extending also onto dorsal fin. Wide black bars in juveniles to about 10 cm.

Trophic Strategy

Inhabits offshore waters over soft bottoms, often with boulders, from 25-590 m, but most common from 100-400 m (Ref. 4694). Benthic (Ref. 58426). Feeds mainly on echinoderms, but also crustaceans, mollusks, fishes (Ref. 4694) and worms (Ref. 58426). In Barents sea, it reached at least 80 cm, age 9 years. Preyed upon by cod, pollock, and Greenland shark (Somniosus microcephalus). Parasites of the species include 1 myxosporidian, 1 cestode, 7 trematodes, 1 hirudinean, 1 crustacean and 1 protozoan, Trypanosoma murmanensis (Ref. 5951).
Migration

Oceanodromous. Migrating within oceans typically between spawning and different feeding areas, as tunas do. Migrations should be cyclical and predictable and cover more than 100 km.
Life Cycle

Spawning happens between the months of September and January at 250 m depth. Females lay great egg bunches in nests built on the ground. The size of the eggs increases with the size of the female. Egg size 5-6 mm, larval length at hatching 21-24 mm.

Anarhichas minor és una espècie de peix de la família dels anaricàdids i de l'ordre dels perciformes.[10]
Descripció
- Fa 180 cm de llargària màxima[11] (encara que la seua mida normal és de 120)[12] i 27,9 kg de pes.[13][14]
- Cos allargat i de color groguenc o de marró grisenc a marró fosc amb nombroses taques marrons fosques al cap, el dors, els flancs superiors i l'aleta dorsal. Els juvenils presenten franges negres i amples de fins a 10 cm.
- Cap gros i amb el musell rom.
- Dents maxil·lars molt fortes: semblants a canines al davant i còniques i arrodonides al darrere.

Reproducció
Les femelles assoleixen la maduresa sexual abans que els mascles, tot i que hi ha diferències entre poblacions: n'hi ha que ho fan quan arriban a fer 48-62 cm de llargària, mentre que d'altres s'han d'esperar a fer entre 75 i 80. Els ous, fins a 50.000, són dipositats en masses esfèriques d'aproximadament 6 mm de diàmetre en el fons del mar entre l'abril i el desembre, principalment entre el juny i l'agost. Les larves són pelàgiques al juny (quan fan 2,4 cm de longitud) i esdevenen bentòniques quan assoleixen 4-7 cm de llargada.[17][20]
Alimentació
Menja principalment equinoderms i, també, crustacis, mol·luscs, peixos[12] i cucs.[21][22][19]
Depredadors
Els bacallans i el tauró de Grenlàndia (Somniosus microcephalus) en són depredadors.[20]
Hàbitat i distribució geogràfica
És un peix marí, demersal[21] (entre 25 i 600 m de fondària,[15] normalment entre 100 i 400)),[12] oceanòdrom[23] i de clima temperat (81°N-42°N, 71°W-59°E), el qual viu a les aigües costaneres sobre fons tous (sovint amb roques) del sud de l'Àrtic, de l'Atlàntic nord-occidental (des de l'oest de Grenlàndia,[24][25][26][27] el Quebec,[28][29] l'estret de Davis, l'illa de Baffin i Nova Escòcia -el Canadà-[30][31][32][33][34][35] fins a Massachusetts, el golf de Maine[36] i, potser també, Nova Jersey -els Estats Units-)[11][37][38][39][40][41][42][43] i l'Atlàntic nord-oriental (des del mar de Barentz[44] i Spitsbergen fins a Bergen -Noruega-, les illes Fèroe, Islàndia[45] i les costes sud-orientals de Grenlàndia).[46][47][48][49][50][51][52][53][54][55][56][57][58][59][60][5][16][61]
Observacions
És inofensiu per als humans,[16] la seua longevitat és de 21 anys,[20] es comercialitza en forma de filets frescos o congelats i la seua pell és emprada per a fer cuir.[15]

Der Gefleckte Seewolf (Anarhichas minor) ist ein Meeresfisch, der im nördlichen Atlantik entlang der Küste Norwegens, in der Barentssee, bei den Färöern, Island, an der Küste des südlichen Grönland und im westlichen Atlantik von Labrador über Neufundland bis Massachusetts vorkommt. Er erreicht eine Länge von etwa 1,5 bis 1,8 Metern.
Merkmale
Kennzeichnend für die Art sind eine Vielzahl dunkler, unregelmäßiger Flecken auf der Rückenflosse und dem langgestreckten Körper. Der Gefleckte Seewolf ist meist von graugrüner oder graubrauner Farbe.
Lebensweise
Der Gefleckte Seewolf lebt auf Weichböden in Tiefen von 25 bis 600 Metern. Er ernährt sich vor allem von hartschaligen Wirbellosen wie Muscheln, Seeigeln und Krebsen.
Nutzung
Frisch gefangener Gefleckter Seewolf
Der Gefleckte Seewolf ist in Europa ein begehrter Speisefisch. Er stammt aus den kalten Meeren der nördlichen Halbkugel und wird nur als Beifang gefischt, so dass er nicht zu bestimmten Jahreszeiten angeboten wird. Die Fischer gehen vorsichtig mit ihm um, da er noch lange nach der Landung wild um sich beißen kann. Er gilt als überfischt. Aus seiner Haut kann Leder hergestellt werden.
Als ganzer (und ausgenommener) Fisch wird er teils auch zum Grillen verwendet. Wegen des derben Aussehens wird der Fisch jedoch meist filetiert gehandelt, teils auch in Scheiben („Karbonadenfisch“). Die Filets oder Scheiben werden frisch oder eingefroren als Kat(t)fisch, Karbonadenfisch oder unter dem Handelsnamen „Steinbeißer“ vermarktet. Er hat jedoch nichts mit dem geschützten Süßwasserfisch Steinbeißer zu tun. Das relativ feste Fleisch eignet sich zum Braten, Pochieren und Dämpfen. Als Kochfisch harmoniert er gut mit klassischen Zutaten wie Senf(sauce) und Kartoffeln. In der Küchensprache wird er im deutschen Sprachraum manchmal auch als Lupo di mare bzw. Loup de mer bezeichnet.

Anarhichas minor, the spotted wolffish, spotted sea cat or leopardfish, is a large marine fish of the family Anarhichadidae. This bottom-dwelling species is found across the North Atlantic and adjacent parts of the Arctic Ocean from north of Russia and the Scandinavian Peninsula to the Scotian Shelf, off Nova Scotia, Canada. In Canada the population declined by about 90% from the late 1970s through the early 1990s, particularly in the northern part of its range. In Canada it is classified as a threatened species.[4]
Taxonomy
Anarhichas minor was first formally described in 1772 by the Icelandic explorer, writer and conservator of the Icelandic language Eggert Ólafsson with the type locality given as Iceland. It is one of four species of wolffishes in the genus Anarhichas.[5] The specific name minor should mean "smaller" or "lesser", however Olafsson meant it to be "latter" as this was the second wolffish species to be described.[6]
General description
They have prominent canine-like teeth in the front of both jaws; a heavy head with a blunt, rounded snout; small eyes; a long, stout body with no pelvic fins; a long dorsal fin extending to the base of caudal; flexible spiny rays; a small, slightly rounded caudal fin; rounded pectoral fins; firm musculature; colours variable from pale olive to deep brown with upper parts sprinkled with irregularly shaped blackish-brown spots; maximum length to over 1.8 m (5.9 ft) and weight to 23 kg (51 lb).[7]
Similar species
The spotted wolffish can be distinguished from the northern (A. denticulatus) and Atlantic wolffish (A. lupus) by its dark spots.[4]
Distribution
Spotted wolffish occur in the Arctic Ocean and on both sides of the North Atlantic Ocean from Labrador to the Barents Sea. Its northern limit in Canada is Baffin Bay, although its presence is rare. In the western North Atlantic, it is found off east and west Greenland, on the Labrador Shelf and Grand Banks and less commonly on the Scotian Shelf.[4]
This species has been caught as far south as Scotland and Ireland.[8]
Habitat and life history
This species is found offshore in cold, deep water, usually below 5 °C (41 °F) and between 50–800 m (160–2,620 ft) in depth but as shallow as 25 m (82 ft) in Canadian Arctic populations. They prefer a coarse sand and sand/shell hash bottom with rocky areas nearby for shelter and nest-building. Spawning occurs in summer to late fall/early winter. As many as 54,600 large eggs [up to 6 mm (0.24 in) in diameter] are laid in deep water in clusters on the sea floor, and are guarded primarily by males. Growth rate is slower for this species than for the Atlantic and northern wolffish (Barents Sea). Fish become mature at seven years of age or older and can live to 21 years. The species does not form large schools and migrations are local and limited.[4]
Diet
The diet of this fish consists primarily of hard-shelled invertebrates found on the bottom, such as crustaceans and mollusks. Echinoderms, tube worms, seaweeds and fish have also been reported in the gut contents of the spotted wolffish.[4]
Conservation status
This species has been identified as threatened by the Committee on the Status of Endangered Wildlife in Canada (COSEWIC). It is listed under the Canadian federal Species at Risk Act and was afforded protection under it as of June 2004.[4] The IUCN assess it as Near Threatened in Europe.[1]
Threats
Overfishing and habitat alteration are believed to have played a role in the observed declines in wolffish abundance. In Canadian waters, this species is not targeted by the fishing industry, but bycatch mortality by offshore trawlers and long-liners is considered a threat. In addition, activities that disturb the ocean bottom, such as trawling, may damage spawning habitat.[4]

Estado de conservación
Esta especie ha sido identificada como "amenazada" por el Comité en el Estado de la Fauna y flora en peligro de Canadá (COSEWIC). Según la valoración de 2001 del COSEWIC, no ha sido catalogado internacionalmente con un determinado grado de protección. Por lo que no está dentro de la Lista Roja de la IUCN.
Distribución
El pez lobo manchado vive en el Océano Ártico y en ambos lados del Océano Atlántico norte de Labrador al Mar de Barents. Su límite del norte en Canadá es la Bahía de Baffin, a pesar de que su presencia es rara ahí. En el lado oriental del Atlántico norte, se puede encontrar en Groenlandia, Islandia y la costa escandinava.
Hábitat e historia de vida
Esta especie vive en alta mar, en aguas frías, profundas, normalmente por debajo de los 5 °C y entre 50@–800 m. Prefieren una arena tosca con áreas pedregosas cercanas para construir sus refugios-nido. La puesta de huevos ocurre del verano hasta el otoño. Unos 54.600 huevos grandes (hasta 6 mm) son puestos en el agua profunda en grupos en el piso de mar, y es guardado principalmente por machos. Puede vivir hasta 21 años. La especie no forma migraciones.
Dieta
La dieta de este pez consiste principalmente en invertebrados con concha encontrados en el fondo, como crustáceos y moluscos. Equinodermos, gusanos de tubo, algas y otros peces.
Amenazas
La sobrepesca y las redes de arrastre son su mayor amenaza.
Especie similar
El pez lobo manchado puede ser distinguido del Pez lobo del Atlántico (Un. lupus), que vive en un área de distribución similar, pero éstos viven algo más al sur y son más numerosos.

Vissen De gevlekte zeewolf (Anarhichas minor) is een van de vier soorten zeewolven uit het geslacht Anarhichas en de familie zeewolven (Anarhichadidae). In Noord-Amerika heet deze zeewolf de gevlekte zeewolf omdat donkere vlekken op de flanken heeft. Deze zeewolf leeft in koude, noordelijke zeeën.
Beschrijving
De gevlekte zeewolf is pas na een jaar of zeven volwassen bij een lengte tussen de 50 en 60 cm. De vis groeit langzaam, is gemiddeld 120 cm, maar kan 1,8 m lang worden en bijna 28 kg wegen. De gevlekte zeewolf komt net als de noordelijke zeewolf voor in de Noord-Atlantische Oceaan van Rusland en Noord-Noorwegen, IJsland, Groenland tot Nova Scotia. De gevlekte zeewolf leeft op een diepte van 100 tot 400 m onder het wateroppervlak.
Bedreigingen
In het meest noordelijke deel van de Atlantische Oceaan is de populatie drastisch afgenomen gedurende de jaren 1980. Dit kwam niet omdat er door de beroepsvisserij gericht op deze vissoort werd gevist, maar door overbevissing op andere soorten. De populatie is met meer dan 90% afgenomen tussen de late jaren 1970 en de beginjaren 1990. Hoewel de gevlekte zeewolf niet voorkomt op de Rode Lijst van de IUCN, staat de vis wel als bedreigde soort op de lijst van Endangered Wildlife in Canada. Voor deze zeewolf moet door de Canadese overheid een beschermingsplan gemaakt worden.
De soort komt niet voor in de Nederlandse wateren, maar wordt wel genoemd als soorten die onderling onderscheiden kunnen worden door de soortspecifieke vorm van hun gehoorsteentjes.[1]

I Norge er den utbredt fra Vest-Norge til Svalbard.

Występowanie
Północny Atlantyk, we wschodniej części od Morza Białego do brzegów Szkocji, w zachodniej części od Grenlandii do wybrzeży stanu Maine w Stanach Zjednoczonych.
Ryba żyjąca nad dnem w głębszych strefach wody, na głębokości 25 – 450 m, nad dnem piaszczystym lub mulistym, w wodzie o temperaturze do –1 do +9 °C.
Opis
Dorasta maksymalnie do 1,8 m, w wieku ok. 25 lat. Ciało wydłużone, zwężające się równomiernie od głowy do płetwy ogonowej. Głowa duża, pysk zaokrąglony, szeroki otwór gębowy. W szczęce górnej i żuchwie z przodu duże zakrzywione zęby chwytne, z tyłu płaskie lub zaokrąglone zęby żujące ustawione w pasmach. Skóra bezłuska. Płetwa grzbietowa długa, wsparta 74 – 78 twardymi promieniami. Płetwa odbytowa długa podparta 45 – 47 miękkimi promieniami. Nie posiada płetwy brzusznej.
Ubarwienie: grzbiet i boki brązowe lub oliwkowe, dorosłe ryby z licznymi ciemnymi plamami i punktami nieregularnie rozmieszczonymi na grzbiecie i bokach. Młode ryby mają poprzeczne prążki.
Odżywianie
Odżywia się cienkoskorupowymi mięczakami i szkarłupniami (jeżowce i rozgwiazdy), a także rybami żyjącymi przy dnie.
Rozród
Dojrzałość płciową osiąga między 7 a 10 rokiem życia, przy długości ciała od 70 do 90 cm. Tarło odbywa się wiosną z dala od brzegu, na większych głębokościach. Jajka składane są na dnie w postaci kulistych bryłek, samica składa w zależności od wielkości od 15 000 do 35 000 ziaren ikry.

Fläckig havskatt (Anarhichas minor) är en nordlig medlem av havskattfamiljen.
Utseende
Den fläckiga havskatten har en avlång kropp med ett stort huvud. Kroppen är ljust gulbrun till gråbrun med flera mörkare fläckar. Även den långa ryggfenan är fläckig. Den något ljusare buken är dock fri från fläckar. Käkarna har samma kraftiga muskler och krosständer som hos övriga havskattfiskar. Den kan bli upp till 180 centimeter lång, och väga upp till 26 kilogram.[1] (Fiskerekordet lyder på 27,9 kilogram[2].)
Vanor
Den fläckiga havskatten är en solitär bottenfisk som föredrar sand- och dybottnar[3] på upptill 600 meters djup. Den lever främst på musslor, snäckor, sjöborrar och kräftdjur.[1]
Fortplantning
Den fläckiga havskatten leker under våren, då honan kan lägga upp till 50 000 ägg i klumpar på bottnen. Ynglen är pelagiska i några månader.[1]
Utbredning
Fisken lever huvudsakligen i norra Atlanten från Nova Scotia, södra Grönland, Island och Färöarna längs norska kusten till Vita havet i nordöst och Bergen i söder.[1]
Den fläckiga havskattens utbredningsområde sträcker sig ungefär mellan 81°-42° nordlig bredd och från 71° västlig till 59° östlig längd[2]. Den föredrar ett temperaturintervall mellan -1,3 och 9°C[3].
Kommersiell användning
Den fläckiga havskatten är en populär matfisk. Man gör även läder av skinnet.[1]

Den fläckiga havskatten kallas också fläckstenbit, panterfärgad havskatt och tigerfläckad havskatt[3].

Пятнистая зубатка [1](лат. Anarhichas minor) — морские рыбы семейства зубатковых отряда скорпенообразных. По многим признакам напоминает промежуточную форму между двумя своими родственниками — полосатой и синей зубатками.
Внешний вид и строение
Максимальная длина тела 180 см, а масса 27,9 кг [2].
Бугорковидные зубы пятнистой зубатки менее развиты, чем у полосатой. Сошниковые зубы не выдаются назад за нёбные ряды.
У мальков этого вида на теле есть широкие чёрные поперечные полосы. Когда мальки переходят к жизни на дне, полосы распадаются на отдельные пятна; эти пятна хорошо обособлены друг от друга, а в полосы группируются далеко не так ясно, как у полосатой зубатки.
Распространение и места обитания
Ареал пятнистой зубатки приблизительно совпадает с ареалом полосатой, но в южных районах ареала она встречается реже полосатой зубатки, а в северных чаще. У побережья Норвегии пятнистая зубатка встречается лишь севернее Бергена, в Северном море она попадается крайне редко, а в Балтийском не встречается. В районе Исландии ловят одну пятнистую зубатку на 20 полосатых. Вдоль атлантического побережья Северной Америки уже около залива Массачусетс пятнистая зубатка встречается крайне редко, но на север вдоль западного побережья Гренландии встречается до Туле.
Как и другие зубатки, пятнистая обитает на материковом склоне. Держится на большей глубине, чем полосатая (до 550 м), и избегает зарослей морских растений. Зимой уходит на бо́льшую глубину, чем летом.
Питание
Рацион пятнистой зубатки напоминает рацион полосатой, но в нём больше иглокожих (офиур, морских звёзд и морских ежей), а моллюсков — меньше.
Размножение и развитие
Сезон размножения приходится на лето. В кладке 12—50 тысяч икринок (при длине рыб 87—120 см). По размерам они одинаковы с икринками полосатой зубатки и аналогичным образом слипаются в кладку, но эти кладки располагаются на большей глубине (более 100 м), чем кладки полосатой зубатки. Мальки ведут пелагический образ жизни.
Пятнистая зубатка и человек
Пятнистую зубатку промышляют в Баренцевом море и у Гренландии. Её мясо считается не менее вкусным, чем у полосатой. Шкура пятнистой зубатки издавна употребляется как материал для различных изделий — верха для лёгкой обуви, сумочек, переплётов для книг и так далее. Сегодня этот древний промысел угасает из-за широкого применения дешёвых синтетических материалов.
