Saurida differs from all other lizardfishes by possessing several rows of villiform teeth extending outward onto the lips beyond the normal row of large canine, and 9 instead of 8 pelvic rays. The species is recognized by the large dark blotches below the dorsal fins (Ref. 48635).Description: Characterized by greyish color; mottled with brown dorsally; visible teeth when mouth is closed; dorsal fin origin behind midpoint between snout and adipose fin; vertical from tip of pectoral equal with level of fourth to sixth predorsal scales; pectoral fins just reaching level of pelvic fin origin (Ref. 90102).

體圓而瘦長,呈長圓柱形,尾柄兩側具稜脊。頭較短。吻尖,吻長明顯大於眼徑。眼中等大;脂性眼瞼發達。口裂大,上頜骨末端遠延伸至眼後方;頜骨具銳利之小齒;外側腭骨齒一致為2列,內側亦為2列。體被圓鱗,頭後背部、鰓蓋和頰部皆被鱗;側線鱗數49-51。單一背鰭,具軟條10-11;有脂鰭;臀鰭與脂鰭相對;胸鰭中長,末端延伸不及腹鰭基底末端上方,軟條數一般為12;尾鰭叉形。體背呈灰褐色,腹部為淡色,成魚體側散佈大小不一之暗斑。各鰭灰黃色,僅背、腹及尾鰭散有斜線排列之斑紋。
棲地

主要棲息於沿岸、沼澤、紅樹林或河口區之砂泥底質的水域。屬肉食性,通常在砂地上停滯不動,身上的花紋是很好的偽裝,有時會將整個身體埋入砂中而只露出眼睛,等候獵物游經時,躍起吞食。

The clouded lizardfish (Saurida nebulosa) is a species of lizardfish that lives mainly in the south Pacific Ocean.
Biology
The clouded lizardfish is known to eat other fish. They are a species that camouflage in order to wait for their prey. At times they will pop their heads out of the sand. It is also recorded that they have one or two lines of teeth on their jaw.[1]
