Lifespan, longevity, and ageing
provided by AnAge articles
Maximum longevity: 32.8 years (captivity)
Observations: The total gestation time of approximately 1 year includes a 3-4 months period of delayed implantation (Ronald Nowak 2003). In the wild, females have been estimated to live up to 30 years (http://www.demogr.mpg.de/longevityrecords). Males live less due to fights with other males. Record longevity in captivity, however, belongs to one wild born male who was about 32.8 years of age when he died in captivity (Richard Weigl 2005).
