Boulder Brain Coral

Colpophyllia natans (Houttuyn 1772)

Brief Summary

provided by EOL authors
The best-known of these animals build reefs in the tropics. Other corals do not build reefs and live in all oceans. Corals are related to sea anemones but have a hard skeleton. It is this skeleton that forms the reef. Boulder Brain Coral builds round ridged reefs. It sticks out its tentacles at night to feed.
