Shell pyriform, often with constriction of the neck, cross-section circular or slightly compressed, com-posed of mineral particles bound by a structured or-ganic cement network with perforated meshes; pseudostome terminal circular. The test is partitioned into two regions by a diaphragm-like part of the shell wall with a single central opening. Ovular nucleus. Habitat: freshwater plants, sphagnum and sediments. Four species in the genus and Lagenodifflugia vas (Leidy, 1874) is the type (originally Difflugia vas).
