2011-04-02 Lower Austria, district Bruck-Leitha (Spitzerberg, 275 m AMSL).While this species, in general, is relatively rare in Austria, it is rather common in its habitat - dry and warm, bushy heaths like the one of Spitzerberg, where I came across several ones on this day (I only saw a very few, but I
heard many more flee).According to
Wikipedia (link to German site; there exists an English version of it but it is fairly short), this one and Lacerta bilineata were not distinguished until 1991 when the split into two species was scientifically recognised. In Austria only Lacerta viridis is native.
