Listed by Blake (2016) in a species list as "Levinsenia japonica Imajima, 1973. Japan, Sagami Bay, 145 m. (as subspecies of L. gracilis)." It is unclear from the context if this is intended as an intentional change of rank to full species. No further explanation is given. This full species ranking is repeated in a species listing by Lovell & Fitzhugh (2020)
