This alga is characterized by layers of mucilaginous envelopes around each cell and another gelatinous jacket covering the whole colony. The picture also shows contractile vacuoles. Each cell bears two of them. Sample from sphagnum pond situated in the northern alpine region of Austria near Salzburg.
