Martes melampus (Japanese Marten) is a species of mammals in the family Mustelidae. They are native to the Palearctic, South Korea, Japan, and North Korea. They are solitary, nocturnal carnivores. Individuals can grow to 440.51 mm. They have parental care (female provides care). They rely on arboreal (locomotion) and running to move around.
