Test attached, consisting of single fragile layer of xenophyae covering granellare and stercomare which are attached directly to substrate. Occurrence: Puerto Rico Trench, 6000-5890m; eastern equatorial Pacific, 4200m. Type species Semipsammina fixa Tendal, 1975: Test layer irregularly rounded in outline and conforms to shape of substrate. Yellow brown in colour, up to 5.5mm diameter and about 0.5mm thick. Xenophyae are sponge spicules, mineral particles and fine-grained interstitial material.
