Stem floating on water, nodes pubescent. Blade lanceolate-linear, 3-6 cm long, 2-4 cm wide, with a
petiole of ca. 1 mm long, membranaceous, erose. Panicle 6-14 cm long, branches stiff, extending
beyond spikelet into a bristle of 6-10 mm long. Spikelets hispid, lanceolate, 5-7 mm long, solitary on pedicel of ca. 0.5 mm long; lower glume truncate or rounded, hyaline, ca. 0.5 mm long; upper glume 5-
7 mm long, acuminate, hispid on veins; lower lemma slightly shorter than upper glume, veins ca. 13,
obscure, acuminate, enclosing a lower palea and a staminate flower; upper lemma pistillate 1.6-1.8 mm
long, membranaceous; anther ca.1 mm long. Caryopsis much exceeding upper floret when mature.
