Herbs annual. Stems erect, 40-80 cm tall, branched above, glabrous, grooved. Lower leaves: petiole 2-4 cm; leaf blade oblong, 10-15 × 2-5 cm, both surfaces glabrous, midvein large, base cuneate, margin entire, apex acute or subobtuse; cauline leaves shortly petiolate, narrowly elliptic; ocrea fugacious, membranous. Inflorescence paniculate, usually leafy. Flowers bisexual. Pedicel slender, articulate near base. Perianth yellow-green; outer tepals lanceolate, ca. 1 mm; inner tepals enlarged in fruit; valves narrowly triangular-ovate, 3-4 × 1.5-2 mm, all valves with tubercles, base truncate, margin entire, apex acute; tubercles oblong, 1.5-2 mm. Achenes brown, shiny, ovoid, sharply trigonous, 1-2 mm. Fl. Apr-Jun, fr. May-Jul.
