Occurs above substrate consisting of sand, detritus and mud; also found in terrace-like edges and recesses in rock faces, between large rocks and in rock failures (Ref. 93985). Most often seen solitary and at bottom edge of rocky habitat where it meets the sandy/muddy substrate; rarely found in waters shallower than 30 metres (Ref. 46829). Has been observed at a depth of 60 m; copepods, insect larvae, algae, sand and snail remnants have been found in stomach (Ref. 93985).
