General Description

On Potato Sucrose Agar (PSA). Colonies. After 4 days, growth varies from 4.45-5.25 cm diam., with a mean ñ SD = 4.9 ñ 0.41, aerial mycelium white and pigmentation light orange. On Potato Dextrose Agar (PDA). Colonies. On slants after 10 days, growth varies from 7.45-7.9 cm length, with a mean ñ SD = 7.72 ñ 0.24, aerial mycelium white and pigmentation deep orange; forming "chlamydospores" slowly, in chains and in clusters. Conidia. Of two types; macroconidia sparse, falcate, thin walled, usually 3-septate, 30-54 × 2-3.5 μm with apical cell bent and foot-shaped basal cell; microconidia abundant, oval, fusoid, aseptate, 5-10 × 1.5-2.5μm, found only in false heads from mono- and polyphialidic conidiogenous cells. Teleomorph. Not known. Notes. This species is able to grow on Glycerol Nitrate Agar (G25N) medium with a growth rate less than 2 cm diam., producing white aerial mycelium and yellow pigmentation. Grown on mannitol medium it produces reddish white aerial mycelium and red pigmentation. On Czapek-Dox Iprodione Dichloran Agar (CZID) the growth rate is less than 5 cm diam. and it produces white or reddish white aerial mycelium and orange pigmentation. On Dichloran Chloramphenicol Peptone Agar medium (DCPA) the growth rate does not exceed 5 cm. On tannin-sucrose medium it produces urease, peroxidase, phosphatase and pyrocatechol oxidase enzymes. It does not, however, produce acid on creatine-sucrose agar, acetylmethylcarbinol compound.
