Polites vibes is a year-round resident along the eastern U.S. coast from Virginia south through Florida, along the Gulf Coast to southern Texas, and south to Argentina and the Greater and Lesser Antilles. This species is migratory in some parts of its range, straying north to Ontario and Iowa (Scott 1986). Habitats are Gulf coast and coastal plain grassy areas. Host plants are grass species Cynodon dactylon and Paspalum setaceum. Larvae feed mostly nocturnally. There are multiple flights all year in southern Florida and Texas, and between March 1-Oct. 31 in the more northern part of their range (Scott 1986).
