The species Apanteles clavatus (Provancher, 1881) has also been considered as Dolichogenidea clavata (Provancher, 1881). The reason for this is that currently there are two classifications proposed to divide the genera of Microgastrinae worldwide.
One, based on Achterberg (2002), sank several genera of Microgastrinae within the genus Apanteles -one of those genera being Dolichogenidea, which became a synonym, according to that author. This classification scheme is followed by Taxapad (a powerful database available online at: http://www.taxapad.com/), as well as Fauna Europaea (http://www.faunaeur.org/).
The second system, based in Mason (1981) reclassification of the subfamily Microgastrinae, has been adopted by almost every taxonomist in North America, as well as many researchers from Australia, Central and South America, China, India, New Zealand, and even some Europeans taxonomists. According to Mason, Dolichogenidea is a different genus on its own, separated from (although related to) Apanteles.
Thus, the species described by Provancher in 1881 can be considered as Apanteles clavatus or Dolichogenidea clavata, depending on the preference of the user. A recent post in the blog Braconidae, caterpillars and biocontrol (http://cncbraconidae.blogspot.ca/), recommended that the species is placed under the genus Dolichogenidea.
