Green Banded Swallowtail

Papilio phorcas, the apple-green swallowtail or green-banded swallowtail, is a butterfly of the family Papilionidae. It is found in Africa.

The larvae feed on Teclea nobilis, Teclea simplicifolia, Macrostylis villosa, Vepris, Calodendrum, Clausena, Citrus, Fagara and Toddalia species.^[3]

Description

A tailed species. The ground colour is black, with green markings.

Papilio phorcas is a member of the dardanus species group. The members of the clade are:

Papilio phorcas est une espèce de lépidoptères (papillons) de la famille des Papilionidae. Cette espèce vit en Afrique subsaharienne.

Systématique

L'espèce Papilio phorcas a été décrite pour la première fois en 1775 par l'entomologiste Pieter Cramer dans Uitlandsche Kapellen.

De spanwijdte bedraagt ongeveer 8 tot 10 cm.

Deze vlindersoort komt voor in Afrika bezuiden de Sahara.
