Hamelia axillaris (Balsamillo) is a species of shrub in the family Rubiaceae. They have a self-supporting growth form. They are native to RondôNia, U.S. Virgin Islands, Acre (Brazil), Puerto Rico, Amazônia, and Roraima. They have simple, broad leaves. Individuals can grow to 4.7 m.
