During brief road survey, eighteen adult toads counted on asphalt following T-storm. Many gathered about roadside puddles. One viewed eating ants on road.
Small, brownish, rough, warty toad. Little to no pale dorsal stripe, snout blunt, oval parotoid glands, and pale tubercles on rear feet. Below whitish. About SVL 58 mm (2 in.). At night exploring isolated streams and intently listening for calls revealed no toads. However, later, investigation of what appeared as a crushed snake on the nearby roadway sadly revealed a crushed Bufo californicus. Following this event, exploration of the road revealed a living specimen. Warm, rainless night.
