Egg/embryo at Gosner stage 40. Areas of melanophores (brown/black pigment cells) and xanthophores (yellow pigment cells) are clearly visible and the eye is developing well. Gills and balancers are present.
Larva/tadpole 1 day out of the egg. It is just 13 mm long. The front limb buds are visible behind the gills and you can just make out the blood cells in parts of the gills. This individual has noticeably fewer melanophores than its siblings.
