This blueberry relative is endemic to the Hawaiian Islands. This Ohelo is often referred to as Tree Ohelo due to its' height (1-5m) compared with the other 2 endemic Ohelo species (V. dentatum and V. reticulatum) which are usually much smaller. Elevation around 3920 ft/1195 m. This species is semi-deciduous. Also in this photo are the common endemic fern, Dicranopteris linearis (Uluhe), and the common endemic tree, Metrosideros polymorpha (Ohia).
