Endemic to Hawaiian Islands. Elevation around 3880ft/1183m. This species is becoming more rare (especially on the Big Island) and is currently a 'species of concern'. They do not self pollinate and require an unknown insect pollinator. This plant was likely planted as part of the Park Service management/restoration strategy.
