Andreaea heinemannii
Description:
This close view of Andreaea shows the moss collected from the same site as the adjoining image (I12-9889) after it was allowed to dry out. The distinctive capsule that dehisces via four slits instead of the peristome that is present in most other mosses can be seen near the center (click for a larger view). From Boggs Mountain State Forest, (Lake County, California), March 28th 2012. Image I12-0285.
