Leaves are usually velvety, ovate to elliptic and 4–14 cm long; margins are entire or coarsely toothed in juveniles. Flowerheads are cymes forming terminal, compact, many-flowered corymbs. Calyx is distinctly 5-lobed and usually velvety. Corolla is white with a tube 2-2.5 cm long, lobes 4-7 mm long and usually hairy. Fruits are 8-10 mm long black drupes, seated in the enlarged red fleshy calyx. Flowers from October to February.
