Common butterbur (Petasites hybridus) growing on the edge of the pond. Alby gardens are located adjacent to the Alby Craft Centre and encompass four and a half acres of ground, formerly a poplar plantation and livestock pasture. Starting in 1987, after the great storm during which many of the trees were uprooted, the area was redesigned; presently the lawns are interspersed by four ponds (one with an island); by a 'wild' area and a small wood; by flower beds containing a variety of unusual plants and shrubs; by streams and specimen trees, and by a selection of modern sculptures.
