Two Asian longhorned beetle adults on a maple tree (11425576685)
Description:
Description: Two Asian Longhorned Beetles (ALB) sit on a maple tree. The ALB is a sever threat to maples trees and to 12 other types of hardwood trees. The beetle larva feed on the heartwood or center part causing tunneling that can make a cross-section of a tree look like a piece of Swiss cheese. The damage weakens the tree and eventually the tree will die. The U.S. Department of Agriculture's (USDA) Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) is the lead agency in the fight against this invasive pest. Date: 17 December 2013, 16:57.
