This photo shows that the two varieties of plants are distinguished by their flowers. Very important traditional indigenous edible and useful plants of the southwest United States. Proboscidea parviflora is one of several very similar varieties, distinguished by its purple/pink flowers with a yellow nectar guide stripe.
