Description: The State of Wyoming designated the Western Meadowlark as its offiicial state bird in 1927. In spring and summer, males sing out from atop fence posts, bushes, power lines, and other high points. This bird uses a National Elk Refuge boundary post to stand and deliver its distinctive song.
