Helianthemum nummularium subsp. obscurum (4806' N 1612' E)

Image of frostweed

Description:

2008.05.11: Austria, Lower Austria, district Mdling, 480 m AMSL, forest (black pine and broadleaf) (Wienerwald Felskopf). This one previously was tagged Helianthemum canum; however, it turns out that it must be plain and ordinary (and, here in Eastern Austria, very common) Helianthemum nummularium obscurum:- reviewing my archives (I made several photos of this one on 11th of may, 2008) I can confirm now that stipules are present (this isn't clear from this photo alone);- I tried to find the same variety of flowers (with the same oddly 'triangular' shape) on this very same place, and failed: I only found H. n. subsp. obscurum;- petal shape must be due to rolled-up sides (due to very dry weather, which we indeed had in 2008).I never realised this until I reviewed my archives today; I took a shot then which clearly shows those rolled-up sides; see my recent uploads here and here.ID: Fischer, Exkursionsflora 3rd
