Ferris copper butterfly - White Mountains Arizona

Image of Lycaeninae

Description:

I dreamed I was a butterfly, flitting around in the sky; then I awoke. Now I wonder: Am I a man who dreamt of being a butterfly, or am I a butterfly dreaming that I am a man? Chuang Tzu I believe that this is a Ferris copper butterfly (Lycaena ferrisi). Any comments or corrections will be appreciated. Similar to a Ruddy Copper, but Ruddy Coppers aren't in this geographic area. www.azgfd.gov/w_c/edits/documents/Lycaferr.d.pdf Ferris' Copper is not on the Federal Endangered Species list but is considered by Natureserve (a non-profit conservation organization) as critically imperiled because of extreme rarity. We went camping and hiking in the White Mountains in northern Arizona in the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest near Big Lake and Mount Baldy. Eric went trout fishing on the Little Colorado River and the West Fork of the Black River. We saw numerous butterflies such as these.
