Image of Mediterranean Grenadier
Description:
Description: A grenadier observed at the Kiwi site. 2900 m in the Eastern Mediterranean.
On occasions other individual macrourids, of smaller size than this specimen were observed. These were likely Coryphaenoides mediterraneus based on the known distributions and the more rounded nose than Coryphaenoides guentheri (Vaillant, 1888), another deep-sea macrourid cited in the Ionian Sea to 2600 m (d´Onghia et al., 2004). It should be noted that the possibility that some of these specimens belong to this species cannot be excluded.
