Vernonia arborea is a species of mid-level rainforest tree in the family Asteraceae that is found in Western Ghats of India and Sri Lanka[2] and is also widespread in the East Indies. It is the tallest of all composite trees ("daisy trees") with the variety V. a. pilifera (called Maremboeng) of Sumatra reaching a height of 117 feet (36 meters). Another variety, V. a. javanica of Java (called Semboeng Kebo) almost as tall (111 feet, or 34 meters) is up to 3 ft 5 in (104 centimeters) thick, the most massive of all composites.[3] Its leaves contain a useful fungicide.[4]
