I am recently student of PhD. at Department of Zoology, Faculty of Science, University of South Bohemia. I am also employed at the Institute of Entomology, Academy of Science of the Czech Republic. I focus on ecology of insectivorous birds in tropical regions. My tropical research is conducted in Papua New Guinea in Binatang Research Centre.
Papua is home for hundreds of beautiful birds living in rich and exquisit forests, high mountains and deep valleys. The breeding land- and freshwater avifauna that adorns Papua with a nearly mythical status, comprises more than 750 species. Therefore, I would like to show you their beauty and fascinating behaviour.
In my research, I am mainly interested in altitudinal distribution of different species, altitudinal migrations, distribution of parazites along altitude. My second field of interest are gradients of disturbance, where I focused on insectivorous birds and thei food resources and predation rates on insect.
In my collaboration with EOL, I proposed to produce over 450 pecies pages for Papuan birds. Information resources on Papuan birds are scattered among taxonomic papers and a few books or databases. I plan to upgrade accumulate species images, produce maps of distribution, migrate species pages to Scratchpad and EOL.
