A shrub or tree, with minutely appressed-pubescent young twigs and young leaves. Leaves mostly 1-3 dm. long; leaflets 3-12 cm. long, 5-9, the blades elliptic, oblong, oval, lanceolate, or ovate, acute or acuminate at both ends, or obtuse or the apex, becoming glabrous on both sides, usually shiningabove, short-petioluled ; panicle branched, the branches short ; sepals 5, ovate or triangular-ovate, acute, about 2 mm. long; petals linear-lanceolate, about as long as the sepals ; stamens 5 ; berries globose or oblong, varying to ovoid or obovoid, red or scarlet, 9-15 mm. long.
Type locality : Montserrat.
Distribution : Florida and the West Indies.
