Plants 1-3 dm. tall, bright-green. Stems branched at the base, the branches tufted, erect or nearly so, puberulent or finely rough-pubescent, sharp!)' angled at least in age, somewhat corymbose or fastigiate above ; leaves numerous, appressed or erect and imbricated, or those at the base of the plant lax, the blades rigid, those of the lower leaves linear to linear-lanceolate, those of the upper ones linear-subulate to subulate, less than 1 cm. long, entire, but sometimes finely ciliate ; bracts similar to the upper leaves ; outer sepals becoming 4.5-5 mm. long, each with an elliptic or oval body abruptly narrowed into a shorter subulate terminal awn ; inner sepals similar to the outer ones but mostly smaller, and like them with erose ciliate bodies ; petals yellow, 9-12 mm. long ; capsules subglobose, 3-3.5 mm. long.
