Mono Lake, Lee Vining, Calif. California Gull (Larus Californicus) raise their young on Mono Lake islands.Mono Lake is a salty, alkaline, inland sea. Millions of birds feed on the brine shrimp and alkali flies that thrive in the seemingly inhospitable water. Bob may be seen hanging around the visitor kiosk at the edge of the lake.
