Centaurea pallescens is a very common annual throughout the deserts of Israel and beyond. It is extremely variable in flower colour, ranging from white, through yellow, pink and purple. In dry years it will not germinate (thus avoiding harsh times), in years with little rain it will germinate and develope a leaf rossette and 1 flwoering head in the middle, in raineier year an erect stem will grow and branch into several to dozens flowering heads. Like many other Centaurea sapecies it has non-spiny leaves, the spines are located only on the inflorescence bracts.
