This species is considered to be one of the progenitors of the garden onoin and garlic. In the eastern Mediterranean it blooms in June-July after most other plants had dried out. The bulb grows for several years withous flowering, when it is mature it blooms, produces dozens of bulblets and dies out. It is an amazing altroistic phenomenon where the "mother" plant dies out passing all its enery to its decedents.
