Substratum: soil.Place: Lower Trenta valley, about 200 m south of abandoned farmhouse Martin, Trenta 46; right bank of river Soa, East Julian Alps, Posoje, Slovenia EC. Comment (pertains to Flickr album 'Echinops exaltatus'): Echinops exaltatus is a Southeast European floral element. It grows scattered in wild on several places in Slovenia in different phytogeographical regions, however, so far it has not been known from alpine phytogeographical region. Also Aeschimann et al, 2004 (Ref. 3) doesn't list it for Slovenian part of the Alps. The plant is often grown in gardens. Rarely it escapes from them and grows wild, mostly ephemeral. This find is most probably also such an escape, since I found it not far from a long time ago abandoned farmhouse and also the place where it was found was once a more or less cultivated land. There was only a single plant present. Nevertheless, this is a new species for MTB 9648/1 quadrant.Ref.:(1) Personal communication (conf.) with dr.
