Description: English: Introduced, perennial, erect, tufted rush, 25-65 cm tall. Leaves are similar to the stems; solid, 0.5-1.3 mm wide and semi-cylindrical with a longitudinal groove. Flowerheads are 2-6 cm long, with (at most) one leaf-like bract longer than the flowerhead. Straw-brown to golden-brown flowers are usually solitary along the branches and 5-25 in number; their tepals are about the same length as the capsule. Flowering is in spring and summer. A native of South America, it is found in moister, full sun habitats around towns, floodplain pastures and drains and in other disturbed areas. It becomes more common in drier habitats during wetter summers. A minor and ungrazed component of pastures. Date: 8 February 2005, 09:16:37.
