These two bunched rushes probably coexists and seem not to be ecologically distinguished. Rather both can be found across a fairly broad elevation and moisture gradient. The main, perhaps sole, difference between them is that Juncus parryi forms a well developed leaf blade whereas Juncus drummondii forms a rudimentary or abortive leaf blade emanating from the leaf sheath.
