Above gray, with rough skin on thighs. Below white, throat grayish, and yellow wash on groin and thighs. No recognizable pale configuration on snout or between eyes. Male with dark, swollen thumb. When handled, expressed squawking release call, sounding reminiscent of toy rubber duck. Measured: SVL 38 mm (1 in.). Found hoping beside rocky, flowing seepage.

Observed in warm, clear, residual pools of drying creek. When approached, adults would leap from stone or bank into water. No Rana catesbeiana were detected sharing pools. However, short distance away in surrounding Alameda and Stanislaus Counties, Rana catesbeiana were seen infesting residual creek pools. Because of the close proximity of predacious Rana catesbeiana to this fragile Rana boylii population, it is important to monitor this location and keep the two species separated.
